We always have a variety of volunteering opportunities. Below is a selection of specific roles for which we are currently recruiting. We are also open to proposals if you have skills/ideas which might meet our needs. You must be age 18 or older to volunteer for us and there are strict rules which prevent current service users and those affected by cancer in the last 2 years from volunteering in client facing roles.

Volunteer Cleaner
This role aims to support us in our efforts to keep the Centre spotlessly clean and welcoming for everyone who visits us. The role involves undertaking light cleaning duties such as cleaning window blinds, cleaning windows, wiping windowsills, sweeping the front entrance, and other light general cleaning and tidying.
We are looking for an ongoing commitment of 3 hours on a monthly basis – time/day of the week to be negotiated.

Volunteer Gardener
This role aims to support us by providing gardening support as part of a small team, weekly on Wednesday mornings.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable gardener (tools and equipment will be provided) to support The Mulberry Centre by helping to provide ongoing regular maintenance and development of our beautiful, secluded garden for the benefit of our clients, staff and volunteers.

Administration Volunteers
We are considering introducing some new voluntary admin/co-ordination roles. We are particularly interested in hearing from local people who have good communication, MS office skills and database entry skills, and have previous experience of working in a busy office environment in secretarial/office co-ordinator role or have good data base understanding/skills. We would be looking for long term commitment of a minimum of six months. Fundraising & Engagement Volunteer – Events Helper
This role aims to support us by helping out at a variety of fundraising and engagement events held in the local community, mostly within Hounslow, Richmond & Ealing, and at our own events organised at our Centre. This is an entry level volunteering role suitable for anyone aged 18 or over who is physically fit enough to stand for periods of time, carry equipment and has good communication skills. We require events helpers to inspire bucket donations, to help set up/take down and run a stall at community events, to sell raffle tickets and stock, give out leaflets and raise awareness of our services. This is a fun role and enables you to meet new people and take part in a variety of local events – most events are at weekends. The more time you can give the more you can get involved. You must be prepared to travel to events in Richmond, Hounslow or Ealing (travel expenses will be reimbursed). You can read the role description here.
Fundraising & Engagement Volunteer – Collection Cans Helpers
This role aims to support us by delivering, collecting, and returning our sealed fundraising collection cans, and identifying new suitable venues to leave a can (pharmacies, newsagents, community cafes, etc) where footfall may have spare change to donate. If you live, work or study in Hounslow, Richmond, Ealing or Spelthorne, are aged 18 or over and are willing to cover a postcode patch or more in your area then please email us at [email protected] with your name, contact details, postcode area that you could cover and we will be in touch.
Fundraising & Engagement Volunteers – Ambassadors To Inspire Community Fundraising
This role aims to support The Mulberry Centre by acting as an ambassador for The Mulberry Centre sharing information about the services and support provided by The Mulberry Centre, using case studies and real examples. You need to be a confident public speaker used to engaging with a variety of audiences in order to spread the word and about our services and encourage and inspire others to fundraise for us. You might be asked to speak to clubs, organisations, groups or individuals about the work of our Centre and the services we provide in a way that builds both relationships and fundraising opportunities.

Volunteer Complementary Therapists (Massage Therapists Particularly Wanted)
Our volunteer complementary therapists provide complementary therapies for people with a diagnosis of cancer, their carers and bereaved. Therapies offered are recognised as having positive benefits and are given with the aim of relieving stress related symptoms. Currently, the touch-based therapies offered are: Aromatherapy / Massage / Reflexology / Reiki / Shiatsu or Acupuncture.
We are continually looking for CNHC registered massage therapists who might be prepared to volunteer for us as we have significant ongoing demand for that therapy.
Each therapy is adapted to the needs of the individual, depending on the client’s condition. Therapies offered are recognised as having positive benefits and are given with the aim of relieving stress related symptoms and supporting our clients’ wellbeing. The role description can be found here.
Volunteer Wellbeing Class Teachers (Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Strength & Balance or similar light exercise/movement class)
We are always on the lookout for suitable qualified volunteers to lead regular, weekly (or fortnightly) classes for clients in Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Strength & Balance or similar light exercise/movement classes. Classes can be arranged at mutually agreeable free times within our timetable and we are looking for a minimum commitment of six months. We run these classes here or at local community at venues. All our classes are recognised as having positive benefits and are given with the aim of relieving stress related symptoms through relaxation, improved breathing and increased activity.
We also look for ad-hoc class facilitators – particularly for Yoga – who can demonstrate a class at events and provide cover when others are away. Previous experience of facilitating such classes and an ability to adapt to the needs of clients and their health conditions is required. A role description can be found here.
Volunteer Welcomers
Welcomers are crucially important in being the first people visitors meet on coming to The Mulberry Centre. They are responsible for welcoming visitors to the Centre, the checking in process, offering refreshments, helping them to find information about our services and ensuring their visit to the Centre is always a warm and positive experience. Welcomers also assist with a number of housekeeping duties, basic admin tasks, helping clients with their evaluation surveys and donations, and other day to day tasks which support the smooth running of the organisation. This is an ideal role for warm, friendly people with empathy and excellent communication and listening skills who enjoy being in a dynamic and varied environment. Previous customer service experience and the physical ability to carry out tasks such as setting up rooms for activities, loading/unloading the washing machine/tumble drier/dishwasher are a definite advantage.
This is a popular role and all our permanent Welcomer slots are currently filled together with a number of ad-hoc positions so we are currently only looking for suitable people who might wish to be added to our waiting list for an ad-hoc or permanent slot as and when they arise in future. Volunteer Counsellors
We are looking for volunteer counsellors who can provide one-to-one person-centered counselling half a day per week or up to 3 clients, remotely or face-to-face, to individuals affected by cancer (patients, carers and the bereaved). We offer seven sessions to cancer patients, carers and anyone who has been bereaved.
Our volunteer counsellors must be in, or have completed, a BACP or equivalent accredited course; a minimum of 60 hours of one-to-one counselling hours are required and, if in training, the support of the training organisation to start client work. Personal liability cover, enhanced DBS and membership of a professional body for counselling and psychotherapy is also required. We offer ongoing professional development as well as in-house group supervision. The role description can be found here.
